02 / MATERIALS & PROCUREMENT
Know what to buy. Know when.
Compare the full delivered package, then test the cost of buying now, securing a price lock or waiting. Your quantities, your quotes, your assumptions.
Private planning, with no supplier feed required. Example values are illustrative. Replace them with your actual quotes. Inputs stay in this browser; quote information is not sent to suppliers. Edits will save on this device.
01 / Define a comparable package
Start with the same scope
The calculator buys whole packs to cover required units plus waste. Both quotes must use the same underlying unit and exact specification. Pack sizes may differ. Freight is entered once per package; the effective tax rate applies to materials and freight.

Delivered cost, including the details
| Component | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Materials, full packs | $4,400 | $4,290 |
| Freight | $180 | $310 |
| Tax | $321 | $322 |
| Delivered total | $4,901 | $4,922 |
| Expiry | 2026-10-14 | 2026-10-14 |
02 / BUY WINDOW
When does an early purchase pay off?
Future price change is your scenario, not a supplier forecast. It changes the material price only. Finance runs from purchase until the later of delivery or planned use; storage and damage start after delivery. Late arrival adds your daily delay cost. Use a consistent cost of funds, whether borrowed money or an equity opportunity cost.
03 / THE DECISION
A threshold you can act on
At this change in the selected package’s material price, the two total costs are equal under your assumptions. Above it, buying now costs less; below it, waiting costs less. A negative threshold means your timing and delay costs already favor buying now at an unchanged price.
| Cost | Buy now | Wait | Price lock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delivered package | $4,901 | $5,136 | — |
| Cost of funds | $81 | $21 | — |
| On-site storage | $383 | $8 | — |
| Damage allowance | $20 | $0 | — |
| Site delay | $0 | $0 | — |
| Supplier lock / holding fee | — | — | — |
This is a simple cash-cost scenario, not an order or a guarantee of future availability. Financing uses actual entered days / 365; monthly allowances use days / 30. Compound interest, resale proceeds, insurance recovery and schedule dependencies are outside this model.
